Toys for AfghanistanThe Rotary Club of Darien, Connecticut, is a chapter of Rotary International, which promotes humanitarian activities worldwide. Our members devote a portion of their time to town events and activities that enhance people's lives, encourage high ethical standards and foster mutual understanding.

Proceeds from club activities support local service initiatives and charities, including programs for the elderly, youth sports teams and financial aid scholarships for students. We also have programs to support international efforts, such as our Toys for Afghanistan program for needy and orphaned children, and support Global educational and healthcare programs such as the elimination of Polio in third-world countries.

How Has the US Government Responded to the Greatest Refugee Crisis Since WWII?

Stamford Innovation Center | February 2, 2016 | 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The Rotary Clubs of Lower Fairfield County invite you to a community conversation about Refugee Resettlement, our national and noble tradition of welcoming persecuted people from all over the world, and helping them start new lives in the U.S. How does it work? How has the U.S. government responded to the greatest refugee crisis since World War II? What has been the Connecticut response to the refugee crisis? And how can you help?

Chris George, Executive Director of Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services will be our speaker. Chris runs a New Haven-based refugee resettlement agency that welcomes 230 refugees every year to Connecticut.

Chris has spent most of his professional life living in, or working on, the Middle East. Before returning to Connecticut in 2004, he worked in the West Bank and Gaza Strip for seven years. Chris directed a legislative strengthening project with the Palestinian Parliament, and later established an emergency assistance program for Palestinian nonprofits.
